criterion, standard

这两个词共同的意思是“标准”。它们的区别在于:

1.standard指事先制定出来的一种或一套客观、公正的规则; 而criterion既可指客观的水准,也可指主观上判断事物的标准。例如:

2.criterion是正式用语,是独立存在而强调完美的standard。例如:

It is not easy to fulfil all the criteria of artistic beauty.达到艺术美应有的全部标准是不容易的。

standard，criterion，measure，gauge

这些名词都含“标准”之意。

standard指公认为决定事物质量或人的品质的准则或原则。

criterion较正式用词，指判断、批评事物的标准，但不一定制成了规章。

measure与standard基本同义，但多用于比喻，指衡量某事物的质量准则。

gauge专指测量物体大小、厚度、直径等的标准规格。
