“优格”(yogurt)是乳制品的一种，由乳汁经乳酸菌发酵而产生。酸奶一词的英语yogurt源自土耳其语的yoğurt，引申自形容词yoğun，意思是浓稠及丰厚。又或是源于另一动词yoğurmak意思为“揉、使之浓稠”，都是制作酸奶的动作和方法。如今在土耳其，酸奶仍是餐桌上的常客，无论是单吃、配菜、还是做主食都可见身影。
