quotation的动词是quore（摘引），是从拉丁词quot来的，意思是“how many？”起初，quote的含义是指“将一卷书分成章节。编上页码”；后来又用来指“按章节页码列举语句”，即“语录摘引”；最后又指用引号将所引语句突出出来，即“引语”。因此直接引语的引号英语叫（quotation mark（s）。quote引用，援引+-ation名词词尾=来自quote，引用，报价。
