1、seed作“种子”解时，多指有花植物的种子，树种及能榨出油的种子。用来指小量的或特定数量的种子以及一粒一粒的种子时，是可数名词，“一粒种子”是a seed，“多粒种子”是seeds。泛指“种子”时是不可数名词，无复数形式。但当seed用于比喻意时，可用复数形式seeds。引申还可表示“种子选手”。
2、seed作“后裔”“子孙”解时是不可数名词。
